Competition Rules 2008
 Standard            -            Time limit – no more than 5 mins.  · Competitors may choose their own music; competitors must dance to only one song; performed by a recognized Country and Western artist (direct any queries to event director). In non-country sections music must be non-country; for waltz sections music may be either country or non-country providing they are performed in waltz timing.· Competitors must wear suitable Country and Western Attire (hat, boots, skirts – no shorter than10cm from the center of the knee/no longer than ankles, western style jeans/pants, shirts/blouses – no off the shoulder – no bare midriff). · The dance must be performed on the same foot, in the same direction, at the same time by all dancers, and must repeat at least twice. Performance is judged from the beginning of the music to the end of the music. Competitors may do an intro to their routine on the opposite foot or contra but must do their routine on the same foot moving in the same direction · Competitors may dance only once in each section for which they qualify. · A team is deemed to be 4-12 dancers. · In the Mixed Age Duo Section there must be a minimum of 10 years between competitors. In the Mixed Age Team Section competitors must represent a variety of age groups. · No props allowed. No athletic moves such as splits, lifts, drops, or flips allowed. The use of overly suggestive or obscene music, costuming or body movements will be grounds for disqualification.  

Standard Solo            -            Time limit – no more than 5 mins - Competitors dance to one song of their own choice, which may be country or non-country, no cut music allowed.- Dance should repeat at least twice. Competitors may choose to do a recognised class dance with variations beginning after 2 vanillas. As such, dance must remain recogniseable. 

Freestyle            -            Time limits – duos 4-6 mins; teams 6-10 mins.  · A team is deemed to be 4+ dancers. · Competitors may choose their own music; competitor’s performance may include a combination of songs; music may be country or can include up to 50% non-country.· Competitors must wear suitable Country and Western Attire. · Dancers perform a choreographed routine consisting of their own choreography or a combination of recognized choreographed line dances. Points will be awarded for creativity and interpretation of music including the variety of music (pace, style) used and the combinations of steps/moves.· Contestants may dance facing opposite directions (contra) doing the same footwork or mirror imaging, formations may include dancing in rounds or wave motions providing team members follow a recognizable flow of dance. Variations from unison are allowed for transitions, sequential movements, or musical interpretation, but dance routines are intended to be done in unison, without a partner.· Hand movements should be done in unison or follow a recognizable flow. · Hat/skirt work is allowed, members may swap hats, but hat should be controlled and must not reach a distance greater than 1 arm length from end of hand. · Competitors may touch for no longer than 4 counts of music at any time. · No props allowed. No athletic moves such as splits, lifts, drops, or flips allowed. The use of overly suggestive or obscene music, costuming or body movements will be grounds for disqualification.  

Interpretive            -            Time limits – solo 3-5mins; duos 4-7mins; teams 7-12mins  · A team is deemed to be 3+ dancers. · This section is designed to allow competitors “ultimate” creative license. Judged primarily on creativity (including originality, staging, and interpretation of the chosen music), presentation (including costuming and performance) and entertainment values based on a spectator’s perspective. · Standard music and Dress restrictions DO NOT APPLY. Competitors are encouraged to use their showmanship abilities and may express these through comedy and/or variety of dance styles and/or the use of props and costume changes. No flips of lifts allowed.· Remembering that this is a family event the use of overly suggestive or obscene music, costuming or body movements will be grounds for disqualification.
